"The trace is not only the disappearance of origin... it means that the origin did not even disappear, that it was never constituted except reciprocally by a non-origin..."

BLACKOUT POEM Weekly Assignment 3:
Create a blackout poem regarding your experiences with microaggressions and illustrate? What are microaggressions? What impact can they have on an individual and on groups of people? Yourself? How is intention different from impact? How does this line of inquiry relate to your future practice as an Art Therapist? What are some ethical considerations?
“I know this is a little odd, but it was incredibly potent and sad to make. The text is about how white settlement devastated pre-settlement forests in the Southwest. I decided to explore it as a metaphor for the effect of microaggressions. I think what happened for me was an emotional braiding of the sense of the devastation that microaggressions can cause.

SELF PORTRAIT WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT 2: “This torn paper collage is a response to the invitation in the first chapter of Louvenia Jackson's book Cultural Humility in Art Therapy : Applications for Practice, Research, Social Justice, Self-care and Pedagogy. I was thinking about writing by Sonya Renee Taylor and Tressie MacMillan Cottam. Both writers discuss how beauty culture often colludes with white supremacy. I decided to use a screen cap of my face without posing or adjusting myself to make it look better. I decided to also respond to my wrinkles and fatigue with paper and attention. It gave me a chance to feel at home with honesty with myself. There is also a connection to seeing myself clearly as a practitioner who has blind spots and lots of capacity to do harm despite good intentions.”
